What are some creative ideas for scrapbooking for school?

04 Sep

I have an assignment for school, and it requires scrapbooking. Though, I want it to make it more creative and colorful. What kind of things should I buy to make it look better?

Thanks

Find your local scrapbook store and wander. I had a project like this in high school and it was that assignment that got me hooked to scrapbooking for life. We had to photographically journal the history of our area. We took the pictures we needed to prove the history, then we went to the library and printed out microfiche newpaper articles from the 1860s and so on. Crumpled the paper, stained with tea, and added to the appropraite pages. Depending on the project, most craft and scrapbook stores have stamps and stickers and papers that cam help to embellish your words (Which I’m guessing you have to have to prove whatever point you are making), and those embellishments will make it more creative and colorful.

Keep in mind, the more creative it is, the liklihood is greater that the cost will be higher. If you’re willing to spend the extra time and money working on this project, I fully support the idea. But remember that the creativity will NOT replace making sure the details are full and correct, so make sure that you are "right" before you embellish. Your teacher will LOVE the extra effort, and you’ll always have that assignment to look back on as a great project.

Good luck!

Where is the best place to start learning about digital scrapbooking?

04 Sep

I’ve done paper scrapping for a long while, but I’m terribly behind. I think digital scrapbooking might just be what I need to get back on track, but I’m overwhelmed with all of the info out there. Help! Where should I start?

First I would start by looking at the software you are going to use. How comfortable are you with using it? If the answer is not so much, I would recommend getting books and such on the software that will teach you how to do various things. If you are using Adobe Photoshop (CS, Elements, etc.), then you can access Adobe’s website for tutorials and tons of information. They also do a podcast if you are interested in that. I have found those useful. Nothing beats getting to see how someone does something step by step!!

If you are using other software, chek out their customer website to see if they offer any how-tos. Many of the various programs have a lot of similarities so even if you don’t have Adobe, you might want to take a gander over there.

Once you feel that you have a decent handle on your software I would go to a limited number of websites. Pick one that you feel give you the best directions on how-tos and have a forum to discuss things. Forums are a great chance to interact and get help when you are stuck! They often will also have archieves so that you can look for answers to questions that you have that may have been asked before. I will list a couple examples below of some websites that I have enjoyed for digital scrapping.

What would be an effective way to make a scrapbook based on burned by Ellen Hopkins?

I have to make a five page scrapbook for English. I’m open to any ideas.

I love scrap booking and I took a course on it so I will help you.

First you need a whole lot of pictures. Write captions under the pictures. Go to get fancy background paper that kind of tells a story about the book. Make it really detailed not just by words, by decorative stuff! ♥

I wish I could have assignments like this in school. Good luck and hope I helped you.

How do I make sure the paper is lined up in the Cricut for…?

04 Sep

I am trying to make invitations. I bought the "New Arrival" cartridge for my Cricut. I plan to cut out the cards with the machine and use the new cricut color markers to do the writing inside. How do I make sure the card is lined up correctly.

Has anyone done it before, who can share how they did it?

I know everything has to be lined up just right with these machines or you end up going of the paper.

Any help would be great.

I would cut some cheap paper in the same size of your invitations and run it through the machine and see where it prints. you need to make yourself a template or pattern that works and go from there with your invitations.

What are some unique ideas for a baby scrapbook?

03 Sep

I was wondering if anyone had any unique/cool ideas for a baby scrapbook. I already have some basic ideas, but I was wondering about some more. Thanks!

I echo the idea on the wrapping paper. For one of my showers for my first, a lady gave me a homemade hooded bath towel wrapped in bathtime wrapping paper. I took the paper and just used if for the page layout and used pics from that shower to decorate. It was very easy… no ironing needed. :)

Another thing I really love is preprinted pages. I know you might be thinking – how un-unique is that!! BUT it saves you a ton of time and you can still embellish them to whatever degree you choose. The brand I love is Aimee J Inc. I tend to go way overboard when it comes to the number of pics I want to include resulting in a huge number of pages. The printed pages help to keep things going and focused so I don’t lose track of what I wanted to accomplish. :)

I’m going to try this idea myself… take a bunch of pics of your baby’s eyes, ears, toes, fingers, hairline… etc. memories you want to capture and make them into 1-2 in. squares to form a chunky border on your 12×12 page then put a full baby pic in the main area of the page and embellish as you like. I waited for Michael to fall asleep and tried this. Hint – make sure your flash is off – my pics came out better without it. :) Have fun!!!
